Netball
On the 26th of June 2013, the Year 5 and 6 team went to the Netball Tournament. We were all excited! What we wore was a singlet and a mini skirt. We went on a taxi to the netball courts. Inside the taxi, we were playing “Pukana” and “Concentration”. When we got there, we saw more than 10 schools.

Our first game was Jean Batten. I thought that we were gonna win that but sadly we lost.  Maybe next time.

Celebrating Girls in Sport- Girls Only Day
One hundred and eighty year seven and eight students took part in a girl’s only day at the Papatoetoe Sports Centre organised and run by The John Walker “Find Your Field of Dreams” Foundation Primary Sport Programme.

Auckland Cricket, Auckland Rugby, Auckland Football, Auckland Softball, Counties Manukau Basketball, Netball Northern and Primary Sport coaches delivered sport specific skills throughout the day to seven local schools, Holy Cross, St Mary MacKillop, South Auckland SDA, Redoubt North, Sutton Park, Koru and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rohe O Mangere.

Organiser Libby Barnett said of the day “It’s great to see regional sporting organisations supporting our local school girls in a variety of sports. Some of the girls wanted details of local clubs so they can play sport at the weekend.”

SKYCITY Breakers

Visit The Allan Brewster Recreation Centre.
By Libby Barnett. Bath Univeristy Primary Sport student and social media advisor.

The all-star SKYCITY NZ Breakers continued their visits inside the community last week, this time entertaining local school children at the Alan Brewster Rec Centre.

The squad was represented by 10 of the boys, including fan favourites Tom Abercrombie and C. J. Bruton.
The Breakers took time out of their winning-streak performances to engage with just over 180 students and staff from six Papatoetoe and Mangere schools: Sutton Park, Papatoetoe Central, St. Mary McKillop, Holy Cross, Papatoetoe South and visitors Home-school South Auckland were all amongst the fun.

Each of the schools had an opportunity to impress on court in a 5 v 5 play against the almighty NZ Breakers, as well as chance to put their skills to the test in a shoot-out competition. Each school was then able to have team photos and autographs with the NBL Champions, along with taking back merchandise and prizes from the afternoon’s activities.

The event was only made possible through partnership between the SKYCITY NZ Breakers, Counties Manukau Sport Primary Sport programme funded by The John Walker “Find Your Field of Dreams” Foundation, Counties Manukau Basketball, Manukau Leisure and the Alan Brewster Rec Centre.

Thank you to everyone involved who made this exciting afternoon possible. We look forward to the next one!Rugby League shines through for Primary Schools at Bruce Pulman Park
By Lincoln Jefferson

The current weather bomb currently sweeping through New Zealand could not stop 300 plus children playing mod rugby league at Bruce Pulman Park.

The tournament organised by Dan Keepa coaching and development officer for Counties Manukau Rugby League involved four different school clusters.

The primary cluster was the Mangere and Otahuhu Sports Association (MOSA) who played off for the chance to represent their area at the ARL Champion of Champions Tournament being held at Cornwall Park on Tuesday 9 July 2013. Sutton Park and Favona won their respected grades to fly the flag for MOSA.

Papatoetoe North were the big winners for the Papatoetoe Cluster.
