Maths time is the best time for Room 20. Students love doing their maths activities especially the group word problem-solving. Here, each of the five (5) groups solves the problems using strategies like halving and doubling, tripling and trebling, rounding off and compensating, reversibility and many more. The problems are related to their lessons on decimal fractions, multiplication, division and other processes.
Students also love presenting their work to their classmates. They discuss the given problems using good strategies. Classmates listen and ask questions like: What did you do in that bit? Can you draw a picture of what you’re thinking? Can you make a connection between fraction and multiplication? How do you know it works?
“Maths is fun. It’s an exact science.” These are some of the beliefs of the whole class.
